How Port Sunlight Village appears

In series two, as the family's money grows, Polly moves into a smarter house away from the back streets of Small Heath. Its exterior was filmed in Port Sunlight, the Victorian model village built by Lever Brothers for its soap-factory workers on the Wirral. In the story the house is in Birmingham. The village's half-timbered cottages, wide greens and tree-lined avenues gave the production an instantly different, better-off look from Watery Lane, which is the point the scene is making about Polly's new life.

The real place

What you can visit

Port Sunlight is still a lived-in village, and the house used for Polly's home is a private residence that this guide does not identify. Visitors are welcome to walk the public streets and greens and to visit Port Sunlight Museum on King George's Drive, which tells the story of the village and runs its own history walks. Those walks are about the village, not Peaky Blinders. The Lady Lever Art Gallery is also in the village. Allow an hour or two and keep a respectful distance from homes.

People live here. Photograph the village scene from the public pavement, not individual front doors, and do not try to find Polly's house.
