How Undercliffe Cemetery appears

Undercliffe Cemetery is used in the series as a burial ground, with its rows of Victorian monuments standing in for a cemetery in or near Birmingham. Funerals and graveside scenes recur through Peaky Blinders, and Undercliffe's dramatic hillside setting, with obelisks and carved angels against the sky, gives them a suitably sombre backdrop. The story places the cemetery in the West Midlands; the real one is in Bradford, and it is a working cemetery, not a set.

The real place

What you can visit

Undercliffe opened in the 1850s as the burial place for Bradford's wealthy merchants and mill owners, and its main promenade has some of the finest Victorian funerary monuments in the north of England. A charitable trust cares for it and welcomes visitors who come to walk and look at the monuments. Paths are open to the public during daylight hours, subject to the cemetery's rules. It remains a place of mourning, with families visiting graves.

Be quiet and respectful, keep to paths, and never climb on or touch monuments. Give way to mourners.
