How Beaumaris Pier appears

VisitBritain's updated House of the Dragon guide adds Beaumaris Pier as a location for the third season, used as a port. The pier's long timber deck reaching into the Menai Strait, with the mountains of Snowdonia behind, gives a ready-made harbour setting that the production could dress with ships and effects. The scenes are not tied to a named episode, and the story places them at a Westerosi port rather than any specific named city. In reality you are in a small Georgian and Victorian seaside town at the eastern end of the strait.

The real place

What you can visit

Beaumaris Pier dates from the 19th century and was refurbished in the 2010s. It is a working pier, used by fishing and wildlife boats, including trips to Puffin Island in season. The pier is free to walk when open, with views across the Menai Strait to the mountains. Beaumaris Castle, a Cadw-run World Heritage Site, is a few minutes' walk away and needs a ticket. The town has cafés, pubs and the old gaol and courthouse.

As a working pier, parts may be closed for boats or maintenance. Confirm access locally, and keep children back from the unrailed edges at the end.

Getting there.

Beaumaris is about 20 minutes from Bangor via the Menai Bridge and the A545. There is pay parking on the green by the seafront next to the pier. Buses from Bangor serve the town. The pier deck is level, but some boat boarding involves steps; ask the operator.
