Plan a responsible visit

Visiting Rivals filming locations

Choose the public town and city settings first, then arrange any ticketed museum or castle around them. Tetbury gives a flexible Cotswold walk, Bristol combines streets and parkland, and Berkeley offers a more structured estate visit. Chavenage stays outside casual routes because its limited opportunities depend on the owners' arrangements.

A useful break does not need every fictional house. Studio interiors, private estates and former businesses explain how the programme was made, but public streets, the aviation museum and Berkeley Castle provide enough variety for several days. Keep the northern Bristol museum separate from the Old City walk, and include the last transfer after each railway journey.

Separate the type of booking from the filming connection. Berkeley Castle and Aerospace Bristol are visitor attractions with admission arrangements. Cosy Club and the Harbour Hotel are hospitality businesses where an interior visit follows a normal restaurant, accommodation or event booking. Chavenage is a family home with limited opportunities to tour. None of those arrangements guarantees access to a particular filmed table or room. Reserve the part of the visit that actually matters to you, then let public town walks fill the flexible space around it.

By rail

Use Kemble for a Tetbury or Cirencester base, remembering that neither town centre is at the station. Tetbury's official visitor information places Kemble around five miles away, and Cirencester Town Council lists it as the town's nearest railway station. Bath Spa and Chippenham connect with buses through Corsham. For Bristol, Temple Meads suits the central street walk, while Aerospace Bristol names Parkway as its nearest major station. Berkeley Castle uses Cam and Dursley and explicitly recommends a pre-booked taxi for the remaining journey. Selecting the right station is more useful than simply buying a ticket labelled Bristol or Cotswolds.

Buses

Corsham has a clear public-transport option: its town council lists the X31 between Bath and Chippenham, and Faresaver publishes the X31 and 231 corridor. Cirencester's council identifies the 882 connection with Kemble, which can help a town-based stay. Aerospace Bristol publishes the Y6 and 75 among its travel options, with named stops and an onward walk to the entrance. Do not assume a rural country-house visit has the same service pattern as a city street. Check the actual return connection before reserving admission, particularly when a last-mile taxi is needed at the end of the day.

Parking and driving

Use signed town parking in Tetbury and Corsham before walking their centres. Narrow historic streets still carry local traffic and deliveries, so they are poor places to stop while searching for a screen angle. Berkeley provides its own visitor car park and arrival signs, with designated accessible parking listed by the venue. Aerospace Bristol asks drivers to use the Hayes Way entrance directions because its postcode does not point precisely to the gate. For the central Bristol walk, park once in an authorised space or arrive by public transport rather than moving a vehicle between Corn Street and Queen Square.

Seasons and opening

The public streets can be explored at a different pace from the ticketed venues, making them useful around a fixed castle or museum day. Berkeley's public programme varies through the year, and private events can affect the route available. Chavenage's owner identifies filming commitments as a reason for limited touring. Shorter autumn and winter daylight also makes a long sequence of rural transfers less appealing. Retain Bristol's aviation museum as an indoor option, while allowing time for the transfer from the Old City rather than assuming poor weather turns it into a nearby walk-in alternative.

Accessibility.

Match the route to your group's needs before deciding how many stops to add. AccessAble provides guides to Corn Street and Queen Square, while Aerospace Bristol publishes its own accessibility information for exhibitions and the aircraft. Berkeley warns that entry involves uneven Keep Steps, which is an important distinction from a view across its grounds. Restaurants and hotels should be asked directly about the entrance route and facilities relevant to your visit. An attractive historic facade or a short map distance does not describe the full surface, step or boarding experience.

Private means private.

Leave private homes and production spaces out of the casual sightseeing circuit. Chavenage needs direct prior arrangements, Neston Park is not an open attraction, and Castlewood's screen office role does not provide a visitor studio tour. The former Battleaxes is now a working office and business venue rather than the pub described in old location lists. In Tetbury and Corsham, photograph from public streets without obstructing entrances or looking into homes. The most useful route follows places that welcome the proposed visit, rather than simply collecting every building name associated with the production.

Ready-made days out

Days out, stop by stop

Public places only, in a sensible order. Check each stop's opening before you set off.

Tetbury and the Cotswolds

One day · Kemble requires an onward connection. Chavenage is deliberately outside this route; it can only become a separate visit through arrangements agreed with the owners.

Spend the day in Tetbury's public centre, beginning around the Market Hall and exploring the surrounding streets as a real town. The Cotchester connection gives the walk a screen theme without requiring entry to a private residence. Plan a meal, shops or another independent visitor interest around the walk rather than driving to restricted gates to increase the stop count.

  1. Tetbury · Cotchester

Keep the private homes and working production premises outside this public route.

Bristol's London scenes

One day · Use Temple Meads or another suitable city-centre arrival and walk between the stops. Aerospace Bristol is a separate northern journey rather than an additional corner of this walk.

Begin at Corn Street for the awards venue exterior and surrounding Old City architecture. If you want an interior stop, reserve Cosy Club as a normal restaurant visit, keeping its literary-agent scene separate from the Harbour Hotel ceremony. Continue to Queen Square for the fictional Russet Street scenes and the William III statue. Public streets and park paths provide the route; private hotel rooms are not included.

  1. Corn Street and Harbour Hotel · London British Television Awards ceremony
  2. Cosy Club Bristol · Lizzie meets literary agent
  3. Queen Square · Fictional Russet Street, London

Keep the private homes and working production premises outside this public route.

Berkeley and the Severn Vale

One day · The castle recommends a booked taxi from Cam and Dursley. A car or arranged transfer simplifies the optional move towards Aerospace Bristol; no direct inter-venue bus connection is promised.

Make Berkeley Castle the principal visit, allowing enough time for its advertised house and garden route. The Rutshire Cup role belongs to series two, episode one, but ordinary admission is a historic estate visit rather than a polo booking. Aerospace Bristol can be added on a longer regional day only if admission times and transport leave a comfortable museum visit. Otherwise give Concorde its own day.

  1. Berkeley Castle · Rutshire Cup polo match
  2. Aerospace Bristol · Concorde cabin in opening episode

Keep the private homes and working production premises outside this public route.
