How Corsham High Street appears

Corsham's historic streets received an 1980s makeover for Rivals, according to VisitBritain, while VisitWiltshire confirms the town among the drama's filming places. The evidence used here supports a public town walk rather than a claim that each shop or doorway represents a particular character address. It is also a different screen use from Poldark, where Corsham's High Street stands in for Truro. Keep those productions separate when matching a remembered street scene with the buildings that survive today.

The real place

What you can visit

The real Wiltshire town has a preserved High Street, independent shops and a civic centre that can be explored without entering private filming properties. The buildings' older character does not mean the street remains dressed for a particular period production. A walk can focus on the public townscape and its ordinary shops rather than expecting a controlled film-location attraction. Respect residential entrances and let pedestrians and deliveries pass while taking photographs. Nearby historic estates have their own boundaries and visitor arrangements, so a town filming credit should not be extended to every impressive building in the area.

Compare the street's overall character rather than trying to locate every temporary sign. Filming can change surface details while leaving the underlying townscape recognisable.

Getting there.

Corsham Town Council lists the X31 between Bath and Chippenham through Corsham, with Faresaver also publishing the X31 and 231 corridor. Use Bath Spa or Chippenham as a rail base and include the onward bus journey in the plan. The town has no operating railway station for this visit. Drivers should use signed public parking before exploring the High Street on foot.

Common questions

Planning a responsible visit

What is confirmed about Corsham?

Official tourism sources confirm Rivals filming and an 1980s street transformation. This record does not assign an individual episode or private address.

Can I arrive by train?

Use Bath Spa or Chippenham and an onward bus or other transfer. Corsham itself has no operating passenger station.

Is its Poldark role the same?

No. Corsham represents Truro in Poldark, a different story and period from Rivals. Keep each production's scene claims distinct.

Plan your visit

Build it into the day.

Use the Poldark guide for Corsham's Truro scenes. Bath offers a separate period-drama outing through the Bridgerton guide, with its own evidence and fictional identities. Also filmed here: see Corsham’s Truro role in the Poldark guide.
