On screen

Marlow is the town-based starting point for a Midsomer discovery trail created by Visit Buckinghamshire and Wycombe District Council. Buckinghamshire Business First’s account describes a route through the surrounding countryside, including Fingest, Hambleden, Frieth and Lane End. The practical value of Marlow is that it combines a documented screen-tour starting point with a substantial visitor destination of its own.

You can spend time by the Thames and in the centre before deciding whether to continue to the villages. The town council’s visitor guide highlights riverside walks, the High Street, parks and gardens, and the Georgian and Victorian architecture. The photograph shows the suspension bridge and All Saints church across the river, offering a useful orientation view.

Those landmarks can anchor a town walk without suggesting that this particular image recreates an episode. Marlow’s public streets and riverfront make an easier starting point than trying to locate private buildings across the wider area.

Visiting Marlow

Plan the town section first. Use the council’s visitor map to connect the centre, riverside and Higginson Park at a pace that suits your group. If you drive, the council lists several town car parks, including Higginson Park, Dean Street, Institute Road and Riley Road.

Follow the current signs and payment arrangements at the chosen car park; street restrictions should be checked on arrival rather than inferred from an older trail leaflet. Public toilets are listed at Riley Road and Higginson Park, with the council directing visitors to current opening information.

The town also has a Shopmobility scheme associated with Court Garden Leisure Centre. Anyone relying on equipment or a particular accessible route should contact the service before travelling and check how registration and availability work. Marlow has rail access via Maidenhead, described by the Chilterns National Landscape visitor guide.

Check the actual timetable for the date of travel. If you continue to rural screen stops, plan that onward journey separately: a convenient town station does not provide a transport link to every village on the discovery trail.

Build this stop into the day.

Fingest and Hambleden are named on the official discovery trail. A Marlow morning followed by one village visit gives more time to enjoy each place than attempting every stop in a single rushed circuit.
