On screen

Fingest is named on the Midsomer discovery trail developed by Visit Buckinghamshire and Wycombe District Council. The Chilterns National Landscape’s walking programme also includes it among villages where walkers can see filming locations. The public village and surrounding countryside are the focus for a screen-inspired visit.

The landscape photograph looks towards Fingest from the surrounding hills, showing how the settlement sits among fields and woodland. Fingest works well for visitors who want to connect a short village stop with a properly planned country walk. The National Landscape publishes a Cadmore End and Fingest circular route, providing actual directions rather than just a list of filming villages.

The village and wider landscape should be enjoyed together at a scale that suits the day: a brief public-street visit is one option, and a complete countryside circuit is another.

Visiting Fingest

Begin by deciding whether you are making a village stop or following the published circular walk. If walking, read the full National Landscape route before setting out and check its start, distance, gradients and navigation points. Download the directions so they are available away from the screen, and use a current map alongside them.

Do not assume that a past guided festival event can be recreated from a one-paragraph description. Within the village, stay on public lanes and respect the normal use of the church, pub and residential properties. Keep gardens, farms and private homes outside the walk. If entering a churchyard, follow notices and give services or other activity priority.

Ask the pub about current refreshments or a booking rather than treating its parking as a public trailhead. The surrounding paths pass through a lived-in rural landscape. Keep gates as found, follow waymarks and avoid stepping into fields for a clearer photograph. Hills and woodland can make walking distances feel quite different from road distances, so allow for the whole circuit and a safe return in daylight.

Check where you can lawfully leave a vehicle before travelling, and change the plan if no suitable space is available rather than blocking a village entrance.

Plan your visit

Build this stop into the day.

Turville and Hambleden are named in the same documented screen landscape. Combine one further village with Fingest, or choose a complete circular walk, rather than attempting a separate car stop at every possible façade.
