Court House closed for conservation
Visitor-source review: .
The National Trust reports Court House closed for the Barrington Court Revival project. Strode House's ground floor and the advertised estate visit are distinct from access to Court House.
Check the visitor programme for your date. This does not mark the whole estate closed, and no reopening date is given in the source reviewed.
National Trust: visiting the houses ↗On screen
How Barrington Court appears
Barrington Court’s rooms became York Place, Cardinal Wolsey’s London residence, in the first Wolf Hall series. The production could dress the relatively empty interior to suit Wolsey’s household and the political world around him. Barrington is in Somerset, so the architecture seen in these scenes is a regional double for a lost London palace. The filming connection belongs to the 2015 series; this guide does not extend it to the later production or identify individual episodes from that broad credit.
The real place
What you can visit
The most important distinction for a visitor is that Court House is closed for repair. The National Trust advertises the garden rooms, orchards and estate, with the ground floor of Strode House also part of the offer. You can enjoy Barrington without seeing the rooms used by the camera. Treat it as a garden and conservation visit, with the Tudor exterior adding context to the screen connection. Do not book travel on the assumption that a Wolf Hall interior tour is available.
Keep the repair closure separate from garden opening when planning the day.
National Trust ↗Approach by car from the Ilminster side and use the National Trust car park, not the village’s residential verges. Taunton station is a rail gateway with a substantial onward taxi journey. Allow a short walk from the visitor arrival area to the gardens, plus at least an hour outdoors. The estate calendar lists seasonal opening; Court House closure applies independently of those garden hours.
