About Little Marlow

Little Marlow offers a village-scale counterpart to the larger town of Marlow. The parish council describes a landscape reaching from Thames-side meadows towards woodland, with St John the Baptist Church in the village. The photograph looks along Church Road, where parked cars, houses and trees show the everyday setting.

Keep your village walk to public roads and signed rights of way. The church and its surrounding lanes provide one possible focus, while the wider parish offers a different outing around water and open space. The Chilterns National Landscape identifies Little Marlow Gravel Pits, also called Spade Oak nature reserve, among the area’s wetland places to visit.

Decide whether you want a village stroll, a wildlife walk or both: they are related geographically but should not be treated as one undifferentiated visitor site.

Visiting Little Marlow

Use the parish map and current local information to choose a route before leaving the main street. Keep a village circuit to public roads and signed rights of way, and check notices before entering a churchyard or church. The adjoining manor and residential properties are not included as attractions; their proximity to the church does not create public access.

If adding the wetland area, use its current visitor information and a proper walking map. Keep to permitted paths and protect birds and other wildlife by avoiding the water’s edge where access is restricted. A lakeside route may involve ground conditions quite different from Church Road, so choose footwear and distance accordingly.

The National Landscape lists a Little Marlow walk among its published routes, giving a better planning starting point than attempting to follow a filming-location map between unmarked entrances. Check transport and parking arrangements for the route you actually choose. Use parking only as permitted by current signs, and leave customer spaces available for the businesses they serve.

If refreshments matter, consult the business directly rather than relying on a historical trail. A successful visit can be a modest public-space walk with one clear focus, leaving the wider countryside for another day.
