Chinnor station gives a Midsomer visit a different focus from village greens and market squares. The railway operator records its use as Holm Lane Junction in Death in a Chocolate Box, with temporary signs, added buffers and water sprayed over the platform and train to create the scene.

Those changes matter when comparing an episode with the station today: the visitor sees a working heritage railway, while television supplied its own name and atmosphere. The operator also identifies The Made to Measure Murders among the station’s appearances. Use the operator’s filming account as your starting point rather than expecting a preserved television set.

Visiting Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway

Choose a published operating day and build the visit around an actual journey. The railway lists separate steam and diesel timetables, so check the service for your date before buying tickets. Its visitor information also distinguishes arriving, accessibility, fares, the station café and travelling with children.

Read the relevant pages together if your party includes a wheelchair user or a baby; the railway specifically warns that buggies and strollers cannot be accommodated on trains because of gangway width. For photographs, use the spaces made available to passengers and follow staff directions.

Platforms, rolling stock and railway infrastructure are functional parts of the attraction, not props to climb onto.

Plan your visit

Build this stop into the day.

Pair the railway with a walk in Chinnor rather than immediately adding another drive. The operator’s village guide introduces St Andrew’s Church, the windmill and local walking routes. Check individual opening arrangements before making an interior visit part of the plan. Alternatively, continue the Midsomer theme in Thame, which the railway itself recommends for its recognised town locations.

Choose one companion stop and leave enough flexibility for the service you have booked.
