On screen

Bledlow is identified as a recurring Midsomer setting by the Chilterns National Landscape walking programme, which names the church and Lions of Bledlow pub among the filming places. The Chinnor railway’s official account also includes Bledlow in its list of nearby filming villages. The church and village pub provide two distinct places around which to shape a short walk.

The lead photograph shows Holy Trinity Church and its grassy churchyard; it is a useful focal point for the village visit. Bledlow also has a landscape attraction separate from the screen connection. The National Landscape visitor guide describes the Lyde Garden, where paths wind around a sheltered section of the River Lyde.

Plants and water make a different kind of pause from the church and pub. The garden’s sloping setting is worth considering when deciding whether to include it, especially if your group needs a straightforward level route.

Visiting Bledlow

Begin with public village lanes and the church exterior, respecting worship, churchyard notices and residents’ entrances. If the pub forms part of your plan, check its own current information for a meal or refreshment stop. The screen connection does not guarantee memorabilia, scene recreations or access to private parts of the building.

A village visit can be complete without entering every place that has appeared in the programme. Before heading to the Lyde Garden, confirm its current visiting arrangements with the estate or the linked visitor information. The published walking programme describes a guided visit by permission, which should not be treated as a standing invitation to repeat that event independently.

Pay attention to gradients and paths in the garden and choose a visit that matches your group’s mobility. The Chilterns programme connected Bledlow with Chinnor by walking a section of the Ridgeway. Use a current map or published route if attempting a similar outing, and check the total distance and return journey.

The railway is a separate operating attraction: a path to Chinnor does not mean trains will be running when you arrive. Keep parking lawful and considerate, and avoid converting a small village stop into repeated drives between neighbouring homes.

Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway makes a strong companion because its operator documents the station’s Midsomer filming. Reserve a train journey first, then shape the village visit around the actual timetable.
