How Caesar's Camp appears
The Heirs of the Dragon, the opening episode of House of the Dragon, centres on a tournament King Viserys holds to celebrate the expected birth of an heir. The jousting lists, stands and tents were built on open ground at Caesar's Camp, with King's Landing added on the horizon. In the story the tournament is held outside the walls of the capital; the real site is a heath-covered hilltop on the border of Surrey and Hampshire. The set was temporary and nothing remains, so you visit for the hillfort and the views across the heath rather than for a recognisable scene.
The real place
What you can visit
Caesar's Camp is a large Iron Age hillfort on a flat-topped ridge, with ramparts still visible among pine and heather. The name is a later invention and has nothing to do with the Romans. The area is open heath and woodland crossed by sandy tracks, with a viewpoint looking out over the surrounding country. Much of the land nearby is Ministry of Defence training ground with public access on foot; follow signs, keep to tracks and stay away from any area marked with red flags or closed for training.
Military training areas can close at short notice. Obey red flags and signs, do not pick up any objects, and keep dogs under control near livestock and ground-nesting birds.
VisitBritain: House of the Dragon filming locations ↗Caesar's Camp lies between Farnham and Aldershot, off the A325 and the minor roads around Bourley. There are small informal car parks on the edge of the heath; tracks are sandy and uneven. Farnham and Aldershot stations are a few miles away. Bring a map or phone mapping, as tracks are many and unsigned.
