How Bourne Woods appears
Bourne Woods provided Westeros woodland for House of the Dragon, part of the production's base of locations within easy reach of its studios near London. The tall pines, sandy slopes and open clearings can be dressed as almost anywhere, which is why the wood has been used by many films and series. VisitBritain lists it among the show's filming places, though the scenes are not tied to a particular episode, and the story places them in the countryside of Westeros rather than any named castle or town. Expect a pleasant pine wood rather than a recognisable set: the production leaves nothing behind.
The real place
What you can visit
Bourne Woods is a mixed pine and broadleaf forest managed by Forestry England, with waymarked walking trails, a large sandy bowl and mountain-bike routes. It remains a working wood and a regular filming site, so you may find areas closed or fenced for a production. There is a pay-and-display car park. The wood is free to enter on foot and makes an easy family walk.
Follow Forestry England notices: tree felling and filming can close parts of the wood without much warning.
VisitBritain: House of the Dragon filming locations ↗The wood is about two miles south of Farnham town centre off the Tilford Road, with the Forestry England car park at the entrance. Farnham station is around 30 minutes' walk away. Paths are sandy and hilly in places, with roots and slopes.
