How Bridestones Moor appears

Bridestones Moor supplied another outdoor landscape for the 2026 film. Visit Calderdale confirms the production’s work above Todmorden, and VisitEngland includes the stones in its filming itinerary. The real location is in Calderdale, distinct from the North Yorkshire Dales group around Swaledale. The connection is to the moor and its rock formations, rather than a village house or interior set. Keeping those regions separate makes the visit more intelligible and avoids treating all the film’s Yorkshire exteriors as one continuous walking route.

The real place

What you can visit

The moor is managed as a community-owned nature reserve by Bridestones Rewilded. Its gritstone outcrops are part of a living upland habitat, not props positioned for a production. Approach on established paths and avoid damaging vegetation or expanding boggy tracks by walking widely around them. Todmorden’s Bridestones are the place covered here; similarly named stones elsewhere in Yorkshire are different destinations. A visit can be enjoyable without climbing the rocks, and people who prefer a shorter outing should choose their turnaround before leaving the road approach.

Use the reserve’s own information to choose your route and respect any temporary habitat guidance. Wet ground can make a short distance slow. Photograph the formations from firm ground, and do not rely on a phone signal to recover your route when cloud arrives. Leave enough daylight for the return.

Getting there.

The Visit Calderdale visitor page describes the rocks as about half a mile north-east of Eastwood Road, reached across often boggy moorland. Todmorden is the nearest practical rail base; arrange the onward journey rather than expecting the station to be beside the stones. Parking space on upland roads is limited, and entrances must remain clear. Allow 1–2 hours as a planning estimate. Wear boots, carry waterproofs and avoid exposed rocks in strong wind, ice or poor visibility.

Common questions

Planning a responsible visit

Are these the Bridestones near Todmorden?

Yes. This is the Calderdale filming location, not the similarly named North York Moors formations.

Is the path paved?

No. The visitor information warns that the moor can be boggy; footwear and weather planning are essential.

Is the reserve a film set?

It is a community-owned nature reserve used for filming. Protect its habitats and stay on established routes.

Plan your visit

Build it into the day.

Pair the moor with a Todmorden or Hebden Bridge base. The Happy Valley guide offers a separate Calderdale itinerary at lower levels, useful when the tops are unsuitable. Haworth and the Parsonage belong to the novel’s history rather than this film’s confirmed location list.
