How Chavenage House appears

Chavenage House plays The Priory, the O'Hara family's home in Rivals. VisitBritain explicitly connects that role with the same property's appearance as Trenwith in Poldark, making it an interesting comparison for viewers of both productions. The fictional house is not created entirely within the real building: Bristol Film Office explains that The Priory's kitchen and sitting room were also constructed at The Bottle Yard's TBY2 facility. A television visit between two rooms may therefore join a country-house location with a studio set.

The real place

What you can see

Chavenage is a real family home near Tetbury. The owners' website describes very limited opportunities to tour because of filming commitments, so it should not be presented as an open-door attraction. Its historic interiors and exterior have supported several productions, but a screen credit does not establish that any particular space is available to visitors. Prior arrangements, the family's use of the house and production work determine access. This guide keeps the property out of map pins, casual driving circuits and accommodation searches while retaining the documented screen history.

If a visit is agreed, ask what the tour includes rather than expecting to find every Priory interior under one roof. Some familiar rooms were built at TBY2 for the production.

Getting there.

Contact the owners through the house's official website if you want to ask about a possible visit. Do not arrive at the property expecting a daily admission desk or use old tour information as permission to enter. The public Tetbury town walk is a separate outing that does not depend on access to the house or its grounds.

Common questions

Planning a responsible visit

What does Chavenage play in Rivals?

It is The Priory, the O'Hara family home. Some Priory interiors were also created as studio sets in Bristol.

Can I turn up for a tour?

The owners describe very limited opportunities because of filming. Any visit needs arrangements made directly with them.

Is this also a Poldark location?

Yes. VisitBritain identifies its separate role as Trenwith. Follow the Poldark guide for that production's context rather than mixing the two fictional homes.

Private means private

See it only from public space.

The Poldark guide explains Chavenage's different screen identity as Trenwith. Tetbury's public streets provide the Rivals town setting nearby without needing entry to a private residence. Also filmed here: Chavenage plays Trenwith in the Poldark guide.
