How Chavenage House appears

Chavenage is Trenwith, the old Poldark family house where Ross's cousin Francis lives with Elizabeth, and which later passes to George Warleggan. The grey stone front, mullioned windows and gabled porch are recognisable from the drive in many scenes. In the story Trenwith stands near Nampara on the north Cornish coast; the real house is in the Gloucestershire countryside near Tetbury. The National Trust describes Trerice in Cornwall as an inspiration for the fictional Trenwith, but the house you see on screen is Chavenage.

The real place

What you can see

Chavenage is an Elizabethan manor that has belonged to the same family for generations and is still their home. The owners have embraced the house's Poldark role and its long filming history, but under their current notice visits are by reservation only: booked group visits, individuals joining a booked group, or bespoke tours. There is no casual drop-in, and the grounds are private land. The historic house has steps and no wheelchair access. Check the Chavenage website for current booking arrangements and charges before planning a visit.

Without a booking, please don't drive up to the house or walk onto the grounds: Chavenage is a private family home.
