How Dyrham Park appears

Dyrham Park is the Warleggan town house, the showy home of George Warleggan, and later Elizabeth, that reflects George's new money and ambition. It is not Trenwith, the old Poldark family house, which was filmed at Chavenage. In the story the Warleggan house stands in Truro; the real house sits in a deer park at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment, between Bath and Bristol. The house interiors seen on screen were built as sets at the Bottle Yard Studios, so the real Dyrham supplies the exterior grandeur.

What you can visit

Dyrham Park is a late 17th-century mansion run by the National Trust, set in a large deer park with views towards Bristol and Wales. The house shows Dutch-inspired collections, and there are gardens, a church beside the house and long walks across the park. Opening of the house can vary through the year; check the National Trust page for current times and prices. A minibus usually runs from the car park down to the house.

The park is home to a herd of fallow deer: keep your distance, especially in the autumn rut and the early summer fawning season, and keep dogs on leads where required.
