How Luckington Court appears

Luckington Court is the Bennet family's Longbourn in the BBC's 1995 Pride and Prejudice. VisitWiltshire identifies the house by that screen role and explicitly describes it as a private home. It belongs to the Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth adaptation, rather than the 2005 film's Longbourn at Groombridge Place. The familiar fictional name can make the two easy to confuse, but they are different real houses and should remain separately labelled in any guide to the productions.

The real place

What you can see

The property is in the Wiltshire Cotswolds village of Luckington. Its presence in a well-loved television series does not make the house or its grounds a public attraction. The useful visitor distinction is between a real village landscape that can be enjoyed through lawful public routes and a residence whose entrances, gardens and internal spaces remain private. The regional tourism source mentions the house while discussing nearby villages and walking, rather than offering general admission to the screen Longbourn.

Use Luckington Court's screen connection to understand the adaptation, rather than as a reason to approach a private entrance. An exterior photograph in publicity is not an invitation to enter the grounds.

Getting there.

Do not plan an arrival at the house or include its gates as a sightseeing stop. A visit to the wider area should use established public routes and respect local signs, occupied homes and residents' access. For an accessible screen-location outing with published visitor information, plan Lacock's village streets separately. Permission to film at a residence does not extend to later visitors.

Common questions

Planning a responsible visit

Can I tour the Bennet house?

VisitWiltshire describes Luckington Court as a private home. This guide does not offer house or garden access.

Which adaptation used it?

The BBC's 1995 series. Groombridge Place is Longbourn in the 2005 film.

What can I visit instead?

Lacock's public village streets provide the documented Meryton setting from the same BBC adaptation, with official visitor information for planning.

Private means private

See it only from public space.

Lacock is the practical public counterpart for a BBC-themed Wiltshire visit, playing Meryton in the same series. Stourhead and Wilton belong to the 2005 film and should carry that separate label.
