How Dysart Harbour appears

Dysart Harbour stands in for Le Havre when Jamie and Claire arrive in France in Outlander’s second season. The harbour walls and waterfront buildings give the sequence its port setting, although the real shore is in Fife. This is a coastal exterior rather than an indoor set to tour. It is also a different French location from Deanston’s warehouse scenes, so the presence of a Le Havre connection at both sites does not mean the complete sequence was filmed in one place.

The real place

What you can visit

Dysart is a working coastal community, with harbour activity continuing around the filming landscape. The sea wall, water and Harbourmaster’s House help explain the production’s choice, but the buildings retain their own current uses and access arrangements. A walk should fit around boats, people working and conditions at the water’s edge. The wider coastal setting is part of the appeal, with the changing light and weather offering an experience rather different from a dressed period port.

Look across the harbour from a safe public route; there is no reason to get close to the water for a scene comparison.

Welcome to Fife ↗
Getting there.

Choose a daylight visit and check sea conditions before spending time on the exposed harbour edge. Remain on public routes and leave working areas clear. Do not assume that a waterfront building is open because it appears in a location photograph. Use local visitor information for the approach and ask about surfaces if access requirements affect your plans.

Common questions

Planning a responsible visit

Is Dysart the port of Le Havre?

Le Havre is its fictional screen identity. The real filming harbour is in Fife, where the waterfront was adapted to suggest the French arrival sequence.

Can I go inside the Harbourmaster’s House?

The harbour connection does not guarantee building access. Check the building’s own current visitor or business arrangements and treat an exterior view as a separate experience.

Is this the same location as the wine warehouse?

No. Deanston Distillery supplies the warehouse connection. Dysart provides the coastal port setting, illustrating how the production assembles a fictional destination from separate Scottish places.

Plan your visit

Build it into the day.

Combine with Kirkcaldy or an Aberdour visit after checking the local journey, rather than making an overfull cross-Fife circuit.
