St Michael and All Angels at Great Witley is a Father Brown Series 13 location named by Mark Williams in his Radio Times interview. The interview identifies the Baroque church but does not attach it to a particular episode or fictional parish. The real church is still used for Anglican worship, concerts and community events.

Its interior rewards a visit in its own right: the parish describes gilded decoration, ceiling paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted-glass windows by Joshua Price, carved woodwork and a monument by Michael Rysbrack. The organ and the building's musical use add another layer to its history.

The church stands beside Witley Court, but the parish and English Heritage operate distinct visitor arrangements. That distinction is useful when planning a church-only stop rather than a combined visit to the ruined country house.

Visiting Great Witley Church

Check the church's current visitor opening and service calendar first. The parish explicitly asks sightseers not to enter during worship unless they are joining the service. Its crypt opens only occasionally; it should not be treated as part of every visit. The crypt's advertised displays include church and estate material and a restored tower clock, so consult the relevant event notice if you specifically want to see them.

For a church-only visit, follow the parish directions rather than assuming Witley Court's entrance and car park are the same. The church lists parking near the tearoom gate and accessible spaces by the churchyard. It also explains that approaching through the English Heritage grounds involves paying for that route.

Plan your visit

Build this stop into the day.

Combine the church with Witley Court if you want a fuller historic day, checking both operators' calendars and admission arrangements. Alternatively make the church and nearby tearooms the focus. Spend time looking upwards at the ceiling and painted glass; the published filming source does not establish a particular camera position to recreate.
