How Petworth House appears

Petworth House supplies the art-gallery interior in Bridgerton's second series. The National Trust identifies filming in the North Gallery, while Netflix explains that the exterior of the screen venue was filmed at another location in London. The real gallery therefore offers a particularly clear comparison: visitors can appreciate a collection setting that the production used for its own aristocratic outing.

Petworth's wider attraction combines a historic house, paintings and sculpture with a pleasure garden and landscaped park, giving the day more variety than a single room-recognition exercise.

The real place

What you can visit

Check the National Trust's Petworth information for current house access, collection displays and visitor routes. If the North Gallery is your main interest, ask about the available interior visit on arrival. A room being used for filming does not guarantee that every object seen in the episode remains in the same position; the Trust's production account describes collection movements and added prop sculptures.

The house's collection pages highlight paintings, including work by Turner, Van Dyck and Gainsborough, and the North Gallery's display of art and sculpture. Give those works time rather than walking through only to match the television scene. The building's domestic and service history is another part of the public offer, with the visitor information explaining which rooms are available in different periods.

Decide whether your outdoor time will be in the Pleasure Garden near the house or in the wider deer park. The Trust's walking pages distinguish routes and arrival points, including the park's North Car Park and the main visitor parking for the house. Selecting the wrong one can turn a short gallery outing into a longer approach than expected.

Use the official map and current directions to align parking with the visit you intend. For longer walks, assess slopes, surfaces and the return route before starting. Keep the house and garden gate-closing arrangements in mind, particularly if your car is in the main visitor area.

Ask for the access map when a flatter or shorter route would help. The house, garden and park together offer plenty for one day without needing to add a second distant estate.

Look at the North Gallery as a real collection before comparing it with the screen. The production's temporary sculpture and changed object positions are part of its work, while the room and continuing art display are what the heritage visit offers.

Plan your visit

Make it part of a workable day.

Petworth town can accompany the house visit without adding another long transfer. Firle Place is another Sussex location in the Bridgerton universe, but its guided or seasonal admission and separate journey usually deserve their own carefully planned outing.
