How Abbey Green and Abbey Deli appears

Abbey Green supplies a compact combination of a public square and a working cafe. Visit Bath identifies the Abbey Deli as the Modiste in the first two seasons, with filming inside and outside. Another part of the square represented Covent Garden. The doubled shopfront makes this a particularly recognisable stop, but the real attraction is still a food business rather than a costume-shop exhibition.

Its operator describes several rooms, a large dining space and smaller corners for customers. The deli sits in the historic Abbey Quarter at 2 Abbey Street, near Bath Abbey. Looking across the square helps put the shop into context: the production used a real piece of the city and changed its identity through dressing and the activity placed around it.

The real place

What you can visit

Visit the square from the public pedestrian space, leaving the cafe doorway and access routes clear. If you want to go inside, plan a genuine cafe visit and use the operator's current information for food, afternoon tea and bookings. The operator also advertises a separately bookable upstairs private space; that should not be treated as a room available for casual filming-location exploration.

Cobbled surfaces are part of the setting, so choose footwear and mobility arrangements accordingly. Contact the cafe about step-free entry or seating needs before travelling if these are important. A photograph outside and a meal inside are different kinds of visit, and neither guarantees access to every area used by the production.

Use the square view first, then a closer shopfront photograph once there is space without blocking customers. Ask before photographing inside, especially if other diners are visible. For afternoon tea, confirm availability directly rather than relying on a historic menu or assuming walk-up service. The Modiste identity is a filming credit, not a promise that the current cafe arrangement matches every scene.

Plan your visit

Make it part of a workable day.

Pair Abbey Green with Bath Street for two distinct versions of the drama's London: an intimate shop-and-square setting followed by a formal colonnaded street. The Roman Baths and Bath Abbey can make this a broader city visit, but arrange their admission separately. Put a booked food stop between outdoor locations so that lunch becomes part of the route rather than a rushed interruption.
